About Feva
Introduction
The Fellowship for Evangelism in the Visual Arts (FEVA) is an independent and interdenominational missionary organisation started in 1992 to bring the gospel to the world of the Visual Arts. This ranges from the obvious such as painting, sculpture, printmaking through to such things as film, advertising and even the field of architecture where FEVA runs a ministry to working architects called 'Christians By Design' (CBD).
FEVA's goal is:
To know Christ and to make Him known throughout the World.
FEVA is achieving this goal in four ways:
- A ministry to students in the visual arts
- The Create ministry
- A church ministry in Petersham
Students
Student ministry has long been the core of FEVA's work. Staff workers teach the Bible in those tertiary institutions where art and design are being taught. These include The College of Fine Arts (Paddington), the Design Campus of the University of Technology (Ultimo), the Sydney College of the Arts (Rozelle), and a group at the Australian Catholic University (Strathfield).
The student ministry has approximately 150 students who participate in some way with between 50 - 70 students regularly attending Bible studies.
Create
The Create ministry is a recent initiative of the FEVA ministry. Create is all about generating "stuff" to promote Jesus as Lord. It focuses on projects which have a sharp evangelistic purpose. Those involved are into film, writing, animation, graphic art, music and any creative angle that will do the job. Create people want to make content that is edgy, sharp and gospel flavoured. In 2006, FEVA took over Outreach Posters which has provided large posters for churches all around Australia since 1988. Petersham Evening Church
In April 2001 FEVA planted a church in the Inner West called Petersham Evening Church. This church aims to reach both the local community with the gospel while also serving as an entry point to church for non Christians in the arts.
Since it's initial meeting Petersham has continued to grow rapidly and currently has 60 regular members.
The FEVA Council
FEVA is an incorporated association administered by a governing council. The council is responsible for the direction of the ministry, setting budgets and overseeing the work of the FEVA staff.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
