Students - FEVA Mission
FEVA Mission is part of the yearly program of the student ministry, all students involved in FEVA are encouraged to participate. The three main events each year are the First Year Weekend Away in March where we get to know each other, MYC (Mid Year Conference) where we grow in our knowledge of the Bible, and finally Mission in December, which is an opportunity to apply that knowledge in the work of evangelism.
The main difference between FEVA mission and other missions like the SUFM missions (Scripture Union Family Mission) is that we work with one church. This means that we can encourage Christians at that church and pass on those contacts we have made in the community to them to be followed up after we leave.
FEVA had its first mission in 1993. Approximately 15 of us went to Lithgow Anglican church for a week of events such as running youth group, running church services, putting on an evangelistic bush dance, visiting a couple of primary school classes and visiting houses in the neighbourhood.
Mission has come a long way from those humble beginnings but our goals have been the same. To be involved in a period of concentrated evangelistic activity - training ourselves as we minister the message of Jesus' saving death and resurrection to the world.
Over the last fourteen years we have worked with a wide range of denominations (Baptist, Presbyterian, Independent, Anglican) and also in some varied locations and contexts (Byron Bay, Nowra, Orange, Wollongong, Gawler (SA) and Petersham). This has been useful in forcing us to think about effective ways to reach different people. FEVA mission is about using our energy and creativity to bring people to hear the message about Jesus. Over the years we've done many things from making "big hat" sculptures lining roads to pub-evangelism, from door-knocking that has led to lawn-mowing to fete stalls, radio interviews, mall presentations, men's shed nights, craft nights, jazz nights, etc. You name it - we have done it at some time!
